How do I manually calibrate the BW GasAlertMax XT II Multi Gas Detector?

BW GasAlert Max XT II - How to Manually Calibrate

How do I manually calibrate the BW GasAlertMax XT II multi gas detector? Our quick video guide will walk you through these steps.

In order to calibrate your unit you'll need:

What calibration gas do I need?

As we’re calibrating the standard four-gas version of the BW GasAlertMax XT II the concentration of gas we’re using is a mix of

  • 25 ppm H2S
  • 100 ppm CO
  • 2.2% CH4
  • 18% O2
  • In a balance of Nitrogen

Ensure the regulator is attached to the cylinder and the tubing and before calibrating ensure you are in an area free of hazardous gas and in an atmosphere of 20.9%.  Turn the unit on by holding down the blue button until the start-up screen appears.

The monitor will perform a self-check and you’ll be asked to block the pump inlet for a short second in order to test the pump and unblock it.  You’ll also be able to see the date of the last calibration carried out.  Once these have completed the unit will show normal measurement mode.

HOW DO I ENTER CALIBRATION MODE ON THE BW GASALERT MAX XT II?

  • To enter the calibration mode hold down the blue button to perform the switch-off countdown but continue holding until the unit activates again and enters CAL countdown and proceeds to calibration mode
  • The unit will continue into AUTO-ZERO mode which ensures all of the active sensors are zeroed and oxygen is at 20.9% before calibration is carried out
  • When AUTO-ZERO is complete the screen will show APPLY GAS and the auto-span icon will flash
  • Attach the tubing to the pump inlet and the regulator will automatically draw the gas from the cylinder
  • You will see that the sensors are starting to respond to the gas. The calibration process will take approximately 1 minute to complete.
  • Once a sufficient amount of gas has been detected, the unit will beep and the screen should show CAL DUE 180 days for each sensor. This confirms the calibration is complete.

If the sensors show anything other than 180 days, then attempt to recalibrate the unit.  Remove the tubing to stop the flow of gas to the unit.

Your unit will return to normal measurement mode and you can proceed with the operation of the BW GasAlertMax XT II.
