Noise monitoring experts keeping tabs on Thomson and First Choice's new flights to Thailand might be pleasantly surprised by the companies' quieter jets.

Those with noise pollution concerns regarding Thomson and First Choice's new flights to Thailand can rest easy, it has been revealed.

The firms are to use the new 787 Dreamliner planes on their new route from London Gatwick to the popular holiday destination of Phuket.

As a result of the choice of jets, noise pollution on the flight path will be reduced significantly, with the new models reportedly 60 per cent quieter than other planes of a similar size.

Noise monitoring equipment should therefore show the benefits of the decision, while those with gas detection devices might also notice a drop in emissions due to the Dreamliner's improved fuel economy - the jets are reputed to use 20 per cent less fuel than their rivals.

Bookings for the route are set to open on November 15th, with the first flights leaving the UK capital in November 2013.

The announcement means British holidaymakers heading to the beach destination can now fly direct, negating the need for a stopover in bustling Bangkok.

Thomson and First Choice general manager of long-haul product Shona Swain explained that the announcement was great news for travellers.

"We are thrilled that we are able to offer an exclusive, direct flight to Phuket on the Thomson 787 Dreamliner and we are confident that our customers will love the destination and the hotels we will be operating to," she said.

First Choice and Thomson are both part of the TUI group, which also owns TUI fly - recently rated the most fuel-efficient charter airline in the world in the 2012 Airline Index published by atmosfair.
