ToxiRAE 3 H2S: How to Perform a Bump Test

Most gas detector manufacturers recommend daily bump testing of the units, however, it's important that you check any site or company-specific rules or policies on bump testing to make sure you stay in line with the proper guidelines.

Here's how it's done:

  • make sure the ToxiRAE 3 H2S is in standard measure mode
  • make sure the test gas you're using contains a known gas value (this value can be set on the unit itself)
  • apply the calibration adaptor to the sensor located on the right-hand side of the unit
  • turn on the gas
  • the unit will go into alarm and will display the value of the gas you're testing for, in this case, H2S
  • turn off the gas and disconnect the calibration adaptor

It only takes around 30 seconds to bump test the ToxiRAE 3 H2S detector, and you can watch our video tutorial here.

As with bump testing, you'll need the same list of equipment detailed above. However, you need to make sure the unit is in the calibration menu.

Here's how it's done:

  • press and hold both buttons for 3 seconds
  • enter the unit's passcode. The default is 111
  • hold down the "On" key
  • the unit will ask if you wish to perform a "Zero Cal", press the "Y" key to accept
  • once the unit has reset all the sensors, press the "Y" again to perform the span calibration
  • confirm that the test gas matches the value on the screen
  • apply the calibration adaptor the sensor
  • switch on the gas

It only takes 60 seconds to complete the calibration, now all you need to do is navigate back to measure mode and the unit is ready to go.
