Using the MSA ALTAIR io360 Area Gas Detector

MSA’s ALTAIR io360 is the future of area monitoring technology. This new monitor provides 4-gas detection in high-risk areas such as perimeters, confined spaces and general area monitoring. Our quick guide looks at how you can monitor gases using the MSA ALTAIR io360 area detector. 

The io360 has been designed to make installation as easy as installing a smart home device for any user. Users can connect to 32 ALTAIR io360 Gas Detectors via the MSA HUB to share alarms, increase ranges, and create mesh networks. Additionally, users can effortlessly mount the io360 thanks to its 50lb force magnet or hang with its built-in D-ring.

It has been tested to function under the most extreme conditions and is submersible for up to 60 minutes at a depth of 6.6 feet (2 metres). Additionally, the io360 has undergone a 10-foot (3-meter) drop test, demonstrating its dependability.

Thanks to the 50lb force magnet, the MSA ALTAIR io360 is easily stuck to a pole, fenceline, beam or anything metal. This makes the io360 one of the best options for those wanting a perimeter monitoring solution. As mentioned, it also hosts a D-ring, which can be used to secure it somewhere a magnet may not suffice. Workplaces can cover a fenceline or create a detection perimeter around a targetted work area. 

As the io360 is exceptionally compact and portable, workers can carry multiple at a time, making fewer trips when deploying, saving time and hassle. 

Workers can also place the MSA io360 in and around confined spaces for continuous monitoring. These area detectors can be used in a Class, Division 1 (Zone 0) location. A standard 4-gas setup on an io360 could last up to 50-60 days deployed in the field. This means the confined spaces can be monitored for lengthy periods of time at ease. It is also IP68 Rated meaning it can withstand sprays and be submerged in up to 2 metres of water for up to 60 minutes. 

Up to 32 ALTAIR io360 gas detectors can connect to the MSA HUB to build a network that you can control locally using the Safety io Grid mobile app.
