This Waterproof Legionnaires' Kit from ETI is designed specifically for legionella testing. It comes with an IP66/67 Therma Waterproof Thermometer and three separate probes. The penetration probe allows users to test temperatures of tap water, the ribbon surface probe can take the temperature of pipes and tanks and finally, the wire probe can be used to reach places the other probes cannot.
Under current legislation, if you are an employer or person in control of premises, you have to organise a risk assessment and this extends to the control of legionella bacteria in water, under the Approved Code of Practice issued by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Incorrect water temperature is a common factor for legionella growth as legionella bacteria multiplies in water stored at temperatures, between 20 to 45°C. Typical methods of control are to store cold water below 20°C and hot water above 60°C while being distributed at 50°C.
