A Guide to Industrial Scientific LENS Wireless

A Guide to Industrial Scientific LENS Wireless

What is LENS Wireless?

LENS Wireless is Industrial Scientific's connected cloud technology for their gas monitors and is compatible with The Ventis Pro5 five-gas monitor and The Radius BZ1 area monitor. The connected technology can create a network with a mix of monitors in the range.

LENS Wireless is a peer-to-peer wireless technology that uses a mesh network to connect workers onsite. This technology requires no infrastructure, IT set-ups or site surveys to start connecting – turn on your LENS monitor, connect and go!

Key Features of LENS Wireless

  • Sites can connect to 25 monitors, either Ventis Pro5's or Radius BZ1's, or a combination of both
  • The radius can communicate up to 300m or 1000ft and the Venits 100m or 300ft.
  • Removes the need for PC's and central controls
  • Connect personal and area monitors that receive notifications instantly
  • Creates faster response times in fatal situations
  • Allows for efficient and accurate communication onsite
  • Gives workers warning of the fatal conditions for safer responses
  • Provides workers with the information to decision make accurately and quickly

What Benefits Does LENS Wireless have?

  • Users can view and acknowledge peer alarms of monitors within the LENS network so workers know when other workers may need assistance or be in danger.
  • Accurate and real-time notifications of gas risks as soon as they occur to keep workers on site as safe as possible.
  • No extensive setup such as IT, infrastructure or configuration is required, just the pairing of monitors.
  • Customisable message functions
  • If a panic of a monitor within the connection has been activated, all monitors will go into panic mode to alert colleagues.
  • If a Ventis Pro5 monitor goes into man down (when it has not detected user movement in 30 seconds), it will alert other monitors within the network that there is a man down.
  • Notifications if a monitor within the LENS group has left unexpectedly for reasons such as; monitor damage, distance from the network range or any other reason that isn't intentional
  • Users who leave a group have 30 minutes to join back instantly. After 30 mins, users need to follow the connection process again.

How do I create my LENS wireless network?

Firstly, LENS Wireless monitors should be purchased – monitors without LENS will not be able to join a network. Alternatively, if you already own a Ventis Pro5 or Radius BZ1 without LENS wireless, an upgrade card can be purchased - as long as the monitors are firmware 2.0 and above to activate LENS.

To connect multiple Industrial Scientific BZ1's, users only need to switch on the monitors to initiate a connection. To join a Radius BZ1 to Ventis Pro5, click the down button on the Radius menu and select join new peer to start the joining process. Then, take your Ventis Pro5 and hold the infrared data port on the bottom of the monitor and hold it against the Radius BZ1 infrared port on the back of the monitor. It will successfully connect once a beep has sounded. Finally, to join a Ventis Pro5 to another Ventis Pro5, hold the monitors together face to face until a beep sounds.

What applications can LENS Wireless be used in?

LENS Wireless is suitable for any application with fleet sizes ranging from 3 to 25 monitors. It can be used in fleets with Ventis Pro5 personal gas monitors, area Radius BZ1 gas monitors, or both. Some examples of applications where LENS Wireless improves safety and efficiency can be found below –

  • Energy plants
  • Turnaround and Shutdowns.
  • Confined space working
  • Lone working
  • Fire and emergency
  • Perimeter monitoring

What other technologies do Industrial Scientific have?

Industrial Scientific has a range of technologies that can work alongside LENS Wireless to create a fully connected workforce on and off-site.

iNet Control is Industrial Scientifics management software, typically for site managers and control stations where personnel can see an overview of sites. All gas detection equipment can be managed, and data such as - monitor health, location and compliance can be viewed. The software can then provide detailed reports on hazards that managers can use to improve the site and worker efficiency.

Industrial Scientific also have iNet Now, a live monitoring software. iNet Now allows users to notice possible dangers to prevent incidents, react to incidents as soon as they occur and manage workers onsite via a simple dashboard from any location through a live map. Users can benefit from real-time notifications via text and email to be notified of alarms, hazards, man-down and panic alarms that can then be seen on the map to identify precisely where they have occurred.

iNet Exchange by Industrial Scientific is a subscription-based service for all Industrial Scientific gas monitors. By subscribing to iNet Exchange, monitors are covered through repair and replacement. Site managers do not need to worry about monitor loss, maintenance or damage as monitors are available on demand when your ones fail.
